I’m so incredibly excited, but frustrated at the same time right now. At my school in Italy right now, they’re offering a class called “Writing for Fashion,” which would be the perfect course for me because 1. I am a journalist…or at the very least an aspiring one… 2. I am a fashion enthusiast and finally, 3. I WANT TO GO INTO FASHION JOURNALISM. Sorry for the dramatic use of font, but I always feel as though I have to defend my preference for fashion writing as a career choice versus something like hard hitting news or sports. Also, the class is based in Milan, one of the fashion capitals of the world, during spring semester, WHICH IS JUST IN TIME FOR FASHION WEEK. Basically, to quote RZ, “I die!”

Except, that might actually be the case for me and this class. It’s only offered for people who are fluent in Italian…which is definitely not me. Meow. What’s a girl to do? Especially since I’m only getting about 12 credits for my degree this semester…

To add to my ennui, Renata Molho (the woman featured so prominently above, thanks for the image, Scott Schuman!),who’s teaching the course is a prominent fashion journalist who contributes to magazines like Vogue Italia and GQ and has written THE biography of Armani. Basically, her career is what I dream of as a fledgling writer. I think I’m going to beg my academic advisor to let me sit in the back of the classroom and audit. Even though I won’t understand what’s going on because it will all be in Italian…imagine having the opportunity to learn from one of the industry’s best….I’m actually truly upset right now. I sense some gelato in the very near future…if I’m going to eat my feelings, at least I have a wonderful place to do it, right?
